A choker necklace or more commonly called as a choker—a necklace that fits firmly around a neck. It does not dangle down to the collarbone or chest, but pretty much fixed around the neck like a collar. The chocker necklace can be made into a fashion by wearing the ribbon around the neck. During the the early French Revolution, young ladies in England took into the fashion of wearing red ribbons around their neck as an act of sympathy to those who had perished at the brutal beheading executions during those era. A choker necklace in the Victorian and Edwardian era features a cameo—a type of medallion that could be worn as a pendant, or a ribbon tied around the neck or made as a brooch. The choker necklace was such a hit in the twenties and are useful for calling attention to a slender and lovely neck. Today, a chocker necklace can form part of a gothic or renaissance look and chokers can be made of a variety of materials crafted in different and more attractive designs as compared to the ribbons back in the French Revolution.
